Hillsboro, OR, June 16, 2022 - The Hillsboro School District is thrilled to share that the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI) has approved the Hillsboro Advanced Manufacturing Apprenticeship, making it Oregon’s first industry-recognized and registered youth apprenticeship program. This innovative two-year program provides a pathway for high-school students, ages 16-18, to receive hands-on, paid training that prepares them for a career in advanced manufacturing, and provides employers with an expanded and diversified skilled workforce.
The inaugural apprentice cohort will start this fall with up to 10 students from the Industrial and Engineering Systems CTE program at Century High School. As apprentices, the students will be employed by Jireh Semiconductor and Tosoh Quartz, and will have the unique opportunity to learn on the manufacturing floor. Upon completion of the apprenticeship program, the students will be fully qualified for their occupation. They will also receive accreditation from BOLI and will be certified to work anywhere as a manufacturing technician.
The District is excited to be working alongside the City of Hillsboro, BOLI, and our partners including Intel, Qorvo, Jobs for the Future, Jireh Semiconductor and Tosoh Quartz to launch this innovative program. We look forward to supporting local students on their path to a career in advanced manufacturing, and helping solve an industry challenge by expanding and diversifying the employee pipeline.
