December 3, 2018 - Summative academic assessments are required in Oregon public schools. These tests serve as independent, objective measures of how students are doing. Clear, understandable test scores help teachers and parents work together to adjust their approach and better meet student needs. State law requires that each Oregon school district notify families of their right to exempt (opt-out) their child from the Smarter Balanced summative English language arts and/or math tests given in the spring. Parents/guardians who intend to exempt their child from these assessments must return a completed opt-out form to their student’s school office. To best support school planning, you are encouraged to submit this form to your child’s school by January 1, 2019. Please see ourwebsite for additional information.
