Hilhi Theatre Presents: Jacob Marley's A Christmas Carol
November 1, 2019 - "Marley was dead, to begin with…"—and what happens to Ebenezer Scrooge's mean, sour, pruney old business partner after that? Chained and shackled, Jacob Marley (Noah Watson) is condemned to a hellish eternity. He's even given his own private tormentor: a malicious little hell-sprite The Bogle (Anthony Rauda) who thoroughly enjoys his work. Desperate, Marley accepts his one chance to free himself: To escape his own chains, he must first redeem Scrooge (Micheal Browning). So begins a journey of laughter and terror, redemption and renewal, during which Scrooge's heart, indeed, is opened; but not before Marley—in this irreverent, funny and deeply moving story—discovers his own.
Hilhi theatre department has taken the classic tale of A Christmas Carol and looked at it in a new way, using the physical theatre techniques of Frantic Assembly (Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime) and with the instruction of Caitlin of Enso Theatre in Portland. This new telling combines the age-old tradition of storytelling and the acrobatics of Frantic Assembly we hope the humor, wit and spooky element shine through!
