His brother has encouraged Emmanuel to pursue mechanical engineering. Emmanuel also has participated in the Minds Matter program, which pairs students with tutors and mentors to guide and prepare them for college. With their guidance, he participated in a summer program at Michigan Tech University where he took college level engineering courses. While there, he sought to encourage more latinos to pursue engineering and make that space more diverse. Emmanuel  has taken multiple IB classes at Hilhi participating in the dual language program with the distinction of being on the honor roll for 3 years. Emmanuel thanks his teachers, Miss Anderson for her level of care for her students, and Miss Denny for her assistance with scholarships and English work. He also is grateful to his proud parents who get up early and come home late to see him and his brother succeed. Emmanuel plans to attend college either at Oregon State or Portland State to pursue a mechanical engineering degree, and then use his knowledge to improve the safety of machines and make the lives of others better and safer. He ended with the Juntos Unidos club motto, Si Se Puede - Yes, We Can!
