City of Hillsboro and Quatama Elementary Hold First Ever Bike Bus

June 9, 2023 - On Wednesday, May 31 more than 35 Quatama students pedaled their way to school on the bus. No, we aren’t describing a scene from The Flintstones, the students were actually participating in the City’s first-ever bike bus! A “bike bus” is a community-supported bike ride to and from school where parents and other adult volunteers pick up students along the way, just like a bus! The ride on the 31^st included Safe Routes to School staff, other staff from Public Works, and the Hillsboro Police Department bike fleet, along with families and community members. According to Safe Routes to School Coordinator Dani Walker: “It was an event full of joy and delightful ‘when can we do this again?’ comments.” The bike racks at Quatama were overflowing with bicycles.
