Minter Bridge Receives Generous Donation from NW Honda Dealers
December 14, 2017 - Minter Bridge Elementary received two checks for $1,000 each from NW Honda dealers and Dick's Honda Dealers on Wednesday, December 13th.
Sam Riley, general manager of the Dick's Hillsboro Honda, presented the checks to Principal Erika Pierce at a staff meeting in the school’s library.
“This certainly spreads the holiday joy for our hard-working staff and students alike. We look forward to enhancing and expanding valuable programs, such as our Dual Language Program,” said Principal Pierce. That’s very important since 28% of the school’s students are considered to have limited English proficiency, versus an Oregon average of 10%.
“We are so excited to help such a deserving school! Like us, the school works together in an all-inclusive team environment. This helps students develop important positive traits and academic excellence,” said Riley. “And the results are impressive: Minter Bridge has about twice the number of students enrolled in the Gifted & Talented Program compared to most other Oregon elementary schools.”
Part of Honda's “School is Better Thanks to Your Local NW Honda Dealer Program,” 11 lucky schools will receive a $1,000 check to help with programs that otherwise have lacked funding due to severe budget cuts.
"Everyone in our NW Honda Dealers family is committed to supporting local schools, families, and to building bridges in our local community. That’s why throughout the 2017-2018 school year, the Northwest Honda Dealers Association (NWHDA) will be giving away $1,000 a month to a local school of their choice. This could not come at a better time when schools need supplies, program support, and equipment more than ever!"
