Retail Bag Ordinance Begins June 1
May 13, 2019 - In November 2018, the Hillsboro City Council approved an ordinance to eliminate one-time use plastic shopping bags. The ordinance goes into effect on June 1, 2019, for retailers with more than 10 employees; and on January 1, 2020, for all other retailers, restaurants, and City-sponsored and permitted events. Consumers without their own bags will be charged a $0.05 pass-through fee for each paper bag they use; people who qualify for SNAP or WIC will have the fee waived upon their request at checkout.
