Interim Principal Named for Brookwood Elementary School
August 12, 2019 - Superintendent Scott has announced that Emily Caldwell will serve as the interim principal for Brookwood Elementary School in the 2019-20 school year.
Caldwell’s appointment comes after current principal, Michelle Jensen, announced in late July her acceptance of the principal position at Boones Ferry Primary School in the West Linn-Wilsonville School District.
Caldwell began her educational career student teaching at Glencoe High School and Poynter Middle School in the Hillsboro School District, before securing a position at Reynolds High School teaching English, Reading, and Journalism. She remained at Reynolds for eleven years, spending her final year in an administrator practicum both there and at Quatama Elementary School in HSD.
From 2014 to 2017, Caldwell was the dean of students at Liberty High School, where she collaborated with building administration to lead teacher professional development, partnered with the Student Equity Team to provide equity trainings to staff, and served as the acting administrator for the Freshman Academy in 2016-17. She transitioned to her most recent role as dean of students at Witch Hazel in 2017. At Witch Hazel, she had responsibility for attendance and delivering professional development on trauma-informed practices, and also served on the leadership team, among many other duties.
Supporting Caldwell this year will be retired HSD administrator Grant Corliss. Corliss has more than 30 years of experience as a teacher, building administrator, and central office administrator. His most recent role was executive director of schools, where he oversaw sixteen of the District’s 25 elementary schools, including Brookwood.
“[Caldwell] is a self-directed and collaborative leader who embraces diversity and establishes a positive rapport with staff, students, and families,” noted Scott. “I am confident she will do an excellent job as Brookwood’s interim principal.”
A process for determining the permanent principal of Brookwood Elementary School will be conducted in the early spring of 2020.
