November 13, 2019
Dear McKinney Families,
I wanted to let you know about a situation that occurred at dismissal time today.
Three students reported seeing a potentially dangerous item in the backpack of an older student (estimated to be in 5th or 6th grade by the reporting students) out by the bike racks. Unfortunately, the reporting students were unable to identify the student, and the student left school grounds before they could be identified by a staff member or questioned.
Due to the fact that neither the identity of the student nor the item that was reportedly seen could be verified, staff on dismissal duty had the remaining students come back into the building to be picked up by parents.
The reporting students did not indicate that the student threatened them in any way, nor did the student make any threats of harm against other students, staff, or the school.
Our school resource officer will be at McKinney in the morning to talk to the reporting students again and see if they are able to share any additional information that could be helpful in identifying the student. We will also remind students that no weapons, items that could be used as weapons, or toys that resemble weapons are to be brought onto school grounds at any time. If you could reiterate that message with your students, it would be greatly appreciated.
I understand that in situations where there are no definitive answers, it can be unsettling for parents. But please know that we are absolutely committed to ensuring that our students, staff, and school are safe.
Please feel free to contact me if you have questions or concerns.
Respectfully,
Tristin Burnett

Respetuosamente,
Tristin Burnett
