Final Lead Testing Results for North Plains Elementary School
10/11/16
To the students, staff and parents of North Plains Elementary School,
On October 5, we provided you with preliminary lead testing results for North Plains Elementary School, which indicated that the first draw samples from 3 of the 57 possible sources of drinking water in the school showed elevated levels of lead. Those water sources were removed from service while the second samples were tested. We now have results from the second samples, which show that all three water sources have lead concentrations below the EPA’s recommended action level of 20 parts per billion (ppb). As an extra measure of precaution, the fixtures at these locations will be replaced before the water sources are returned to service.
Please note that because there is just one pipe leading to both the faucet and drinking fountain in Rooms 17 and 19, when the water to those faucets was shut off it also affected the drinking fountains, so we have been providing bottled water. Once the faucets have been replaced at these sinks and the water is turned back on, bottled water will no longer be needed.
