Former HSD principal, Patty Wiemer, suffered a stroke in early May 2024 and passed away shortly thereafter. Here is some information about her in her own words from January 21, 2011, as she was announcing her impending retirement at the end of June:

I attended Grant High in Portland, then on to U of O, after which I worked for Eugene School District. My post-graduate work was through Portland State and Lewis and Clark. I started my teaching career as a Kindergarten teacher when Oregon’s public schools first included kindergartens statewide. During the mid 80’s, we moved north, and I worked for Beaverton schools. Always a primary teacher, I left the classroom and spent 5 years as a student supervisor and technology facilitator at Greenway Elem in Beaverton. I became a principal with Hillsboro Schools in 1999 at W.Verne McKinney, before being asked to open Free Orchards Elementary.

Perhaps the highlight of my career has been working with Hillsboro Schools as we worked to strengthen our academic programs K-12. It was a great honor being asked to open a new school and I have loved working with the Cornelius community.

Former HSD teacher Karen Greene Bidwell passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2024. Karen taught middle school English for her entire 30-year career in HSD. She taught at J.B. Thomas and Evergreen. A celebration of her life will be held at Sonrise Church in Hillsboro on Friday, March 15, at 3 p.m.

Long-time HSD educational assistant, Eva Rodriguez, passed away at home surrounded by family on Sunday, January 21, 2024, after a year-plus battle with pancreatic cancer.

Eva supported students and staff at both W.L. Henry and McKinney over her nearly 30-year career. Her service and the relationships she cultivated with students and staff brought her much joy.

Eva was a friend, mentor, and advocate for our Hillsboro community. Her smile and positivity will be greatly missed.
